В статье анализируются проходившие в Константинополе V в. политические процессы над высокопоставленными чиновниками, которые обвинялись в приверженности язычеству, а именно процессы над префектом Киром, квестором Исокасием и силенциарием Пелагием. Приводится анализ обстоятельств, предшествующих судебным разбирательствам, а также специфики самих процессов. Выясняется, что обвинения, выдвинутые против вышеупомянутых чиновников, в значительной степени были надуманными и использовались как удобный инструмент для устранения политических противников. Делается вывод, согласно которому в каждом из рассмотренных случаев реальный повод для осуждения сводился к соперничеству между различными придворными группировками, а обвинения в «эллинстве», которое формально воспринималось обществом как суровое преступление против существующего порядка, служили лишь удобным предлогом для устранения конкурентов в борьбе за власть.
